Should I pay before claim has gone through my insurance? : HealthInsurance

I have BCBS through my employer and I have my kid as a dependent. My kid is going to start receiving speech therapy this week and I paid for the initial evaluation and am to pay for this week’s session a day prior to avoid cancelation but the claim has not gone through my insurance yet. Also, I am to pay 100% of services until I meet my deductible.

I am planning on calling his provider but I would like to know how it works before doing so. I have never had private insurance before, therefore idk how it goes. Is it normal for them not to file the claim yet? His evaluation was 3 weeks ago and I was asked to pay for it in order to get my son on the list and I don’t want him to miss out this week’s therapy because of a lag in paperwork. I know the smart thing to do is wait and see the EOB but am I able march down to his provider and ask them to see my child even if I don’t pay for the session? Do they even file a claim in these cases or do I just pay?

I live in California if it makes a difference.
